This must be one of the hardest things to do, I struggle with it, no doubt many readers here will also, Nonetheless it's important that your web pages are interesting to your visitors. Every visitor wants to get a prompt answer to the question "what's in it for me?". So, in the first paragraph of your web page, you should try to tell your visitors the following information:
People want information and if you don't answer these questions quickly enough, the majority of people will simply go away. People aren't necessarily interested in your product service, or in your company. Which mens your biggest job is convincing them that your web site has what 'they' want. Before you start to write a sales page, make sure that you know and understand your product, it helps if like me you're passionate about it. You and you alone have to fully believe in your product and services, if you don't, you shouldn't sell it and chances are you'll never sell it to others. You cannot write a convincing sales page if you don't stand behind your product. Look at how the big boys do it, they make it look they're doing the customers a favor by offering their product to them!
What's in it for your customers? Your customers, just like us, want benefits. What can your product or service do for them? What can it do for them now, and as it's the internet they really do mean 'right now'! The benefits of your product or service should be the first words on your site - did you read the first sentence of this site? "...... from now on, things are going to get better!" Make it bold and make it big! If your visitors don't know what's in it for them after the first few seconds, they'll leave your site and your competitors will have gained another customer. One of the biggest tips I can give you (obvious as we all do it) Is that people don't read everything on your page. They scan it for interesting information. So try to grab their attention.
It's easy to confuse them, but don't mix up features and benefits Yes, we all do, but where possible you must differentiate between features and benefits. Features are the attributes of your product and service, where as benefits are what your product or service promises. For example, if you sell mobile phones, then the feature is "new, tri-band technology". The benefit to your customer is "allows you to easily change operators within virtually any county in the world....". Don't bore your potential customers with all technical details, us web hosts are renowned for this, look at our network, take the data centre tour... remember not everyone understand 'techno speak' nor may they be interest in certain aspects of how a web hosting company operates. Tell them what your product and service will do for them, how they will feel when they try your product or service. Maybe your product or service will make them more money, maybe it will save them time. Tell them about it..... and most of all don't be shy!
Killer headlines to grab attention As stated earlier (incase you skipped parts of this page ;) ) Nobody will read your entire page, so try to make it easier for your customers by dividing your page into paragraphs where each paragraph has a headline. Your headlines should make it clear what to expect in the next sentences and they should grab your visitors' attention, encouraging them to read the content that follows. Try to use words that register with the reader as a 'benefit' for them, like "free, or exclusive" however, try to avoid words like "should, could" and "but". Make sure that you use "you" more than "I" or "we".
End your sales page(s) by telling the reader what you want them to do At the end of your sales text, you must tell your visitors what to do next, for example "Click here to order now and get instant activation".
Remember: As cold as it may sound, your customers don't really care about you or your business. They only want to know what's in for them, so tell them!
